Dinah Wells began studying art with Lou Bonamarte, formerly an instructor and dean at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, in 1991. She painted almost exclusively in watercolor, and her subjects included landscapes, still-life compositions, florals, and animals.  In 2007, Dinah began a series of insect paintings in watercolor, which culminated in a successful solo show of 35 insect “portraits,”many of which can be seen on this website.  Her graduate studies in entomology at Fordham University were of great help, as the paintings are a combination of scientific illustration and fine art.

In 2014, Dinah began painting in oils instead of watercolor. She studied during this time with Eileen Eder at the Lyme Art Association.  Now able to devote full time to her artwork, she paints outdoors all year round and in the studio. Workshops with T. Allen Lawson, Don Demers, Kathleen Dunphy, and Mark Boedges were invaluable at the beginning of this process and continue to inspire her studies. Dinah is a member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society (CWS), the Guilford Art League (GAL), the Lyme Art Association (LAA), and the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society (CPAPS). Dinah is a semiretired electrical contractor living in Guilford, CT.
